• (NEW) High Resolution Reflectivity and Velocity are now supported.
• (NEW) Terminal Doppler Weather Radar (TDWR) sites now supported.
• (EXPERIMENTAL) 3D RADAR: By using all elevation angles of a site volume scan, we can construct a 3 dimensional view. Nexrad3's new 3D radar feature allows you to select any of your existing Area Maps for 3D viewing. The background map is converted into a image plane set at the surface (altitude of zero). Then for each site in your Area, the sweeps p19r0, p19r1, p19r2, p19r3 and p20-r are scanned and echoes are projected onto a volume grid. The resulting grid is then contoured to create isosurfaces representing 3D objects. Nexrad3 will create an offline/online loop or single image which can be auto-updated just like the normal image loops. MAKE SURE AND READ THE HELP TOPIC ON 3D BEFORE TRYING IT!

• Pulldown alphanumeric data window on each radar view window.
• Full radar data view box for all tabular text, alerts/warnings and product dependent data associated with each frame.
• US Alerts/Watches/Warnings are supported. You can make a "Warnings" image or overlay warnings onto radar images.
• Define your own multi-site composite/mosaic “area” map. Maps are drawn using GIS (ESRI) shapefiles. User can control most rendering properties like color, font, pen width, etc.
• Download and display latest radar data from user-selected site/product .
• Most publicly available raw radar products supported…Base Reflectivity, Base Velocity, Storm Relative Velocity, Echo Tops, Vertical Integrated Liquid, Composite Reflectivity, Layer Composite Reflectivity, VAD Wind Profile and Surface Rain Accumulation.
• Overlay Products now supported (TVS,MESO,HAIL,STORM TRACKS,STORM STRUCTURE,SUPP PRECIP DATA).
• Absolute Velocity – a little feature I designed that takes the base velocity product and draws the data as non-directional wind values forced to a standard scale.
• MDI (multi-window) design which means you can have any number of radar views open, each one being auto-updated.
• Full Screen mode (similar to screen saver).
• Expanded Level II archive support. Can loop selected sweeps within multiple volume scans onto any existing “area” map of your choice, or onto its “standard” map.
• Smarter multi-site mosaic composites – all composite frames are now forced to standard scales to prevent conflicting data scales from one site to another. This includes sites that are in “clear air” mode.
• Output formats include BMP, JPEG, PNG and AVI.
• Any “Polygon”, “Arc” or “Point” shapefile can be inserted into Nexrad3’s “Shapefile folder” for mapping use.
• User-controlled radar color tables with seperate color tables for different radar product families.
• EASY automated data retrieval using either the “timer” download features or the “Auto-Update” features on each radar viewer window.
• “VCR” controls for Pause, Frame Advance, Zoom, etc. for loops.

Nexrad3 Screen Shots

Nexrad3, like most weather applications, is ever-evolving software. As the radar data becomes more complex, so must the software. In order to keep up to date, make sure you've registered after purchasing. Once I receive your registration I will email you a username and password to access the upgrades when they become available. While I'm still working on the software I'm only asking $40.

The demo version only includes the basic "World" shapefile for map making. The MAP OPTIONS menu offers several automated shapefile downloads.


Am image server edition is also available. It runs the radar images shown on my home page. Although it is not yet an actual software offering, it can be obtained by contacting me. If you are interested in it, please email me.
